How do you fall in love?

Falling in love is a wild ride. It has something to do with connecting with someone else on such a profound level that you're simply brought down to the essentials. But by now most of us have figured out that there are definitely differences between men and women when it comes to falling in love. How long it takes a woman to fall in love can depend on various factors, such as the person she's dating, her headspace and her personal timeline for when it feels right to open up completely.

The basic principle of falling in love can be boiled down to this: the more often you have good experiences with a person - provided your first interaction with them was positive - the more likely you are to keep developing feelings. And if a person meets the requirements you've set for your ideal partner, the chances of clicking with that particular person go up as well.

What do men want?

Men pursue a woman they're involved with in different ways. However, if a woman keeps playing the "hard to get" game or doesn't appreciate even the little things they do for her, they quickly get bored. Some may claim otherwise, but teasing a man or stringing him along is not the way to ensure a certain steadfastness.

When a man feels he can make the woman in his life happy, he's more likely to fall in love with her. But we're not talking about superficial happiness (like him buying her things or doing her favors), we're talking about bonding. When a couple bonds and sincerely enjoys their time together, both people feel connected and can make each other happy.

When it gets to the point where you grow closer and feelings are involved, you'll notice that he may start making a little more of an effort, trying harder with certain things and even changing some of his bad habits. He does this because a man in love wants to be the best for the woman he's in love with. Part of falling in love is that you want to be your best self for the other person. At the beginning it can show up as the instinct to want to impress the other person, later you may want to make her happy, and across the board you find yourself inspired to do and be more because the person you love supports you and builds you up.

So the myth that women fall in love more slowly is pure speculation and can't be precisely proven. True, there are a number of surveys according to which men always dared to take the first step and then had to "wait" for the woman until she, too, developed love, but those aren't clear proof that the question can be answered with a yes.
